NUCHSM welcomes Adjunct Professor from Tokyo Medical and Dental University
The College of Health Systems Management, Naresuan University (NUCHSM) under the leadership of its Acting Director, Asst. Prof. Dr. Phudit Tejativaddhana welcomed Prof. Dr. Keiko Nakamura, one of NUCHSM’s Adjunct Professors, from Tokyo Medical Dental University (TMDU), Japan during her visit at NUCHSM office on the 10th of July 2018.
Prof. Dr. Keiko Nakamura is the Chair of the Department of Global Entrepreneurship, Division of Public Health, Graduate School of Tokyo Medical and Dental University, Japan. She also serves as the Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Healthy Cities and Urban Policy Research. Her areas of interests are on trade in health service and international workforce for health and long-term care, sustainable development through healthy cities, social business models for equitable delivery of healthcare and the ageing society’s quality of life.
Prof. Nakamura has been with the WHO working for the Healthy Cities Program since the 1990’s She ardently commit herself to the Alliance for Healthy Cities, an international network of research and action to improve the health of the population in urban areas and reduce urban susceptibilities to health problems in Asia and Pacific regions. She is actively engaged in developing models of research and local actions for healthy cities together with the network of cities and organizations and academic institutions under the alliance of healthy Cities.
Prof. Nakamura was in Thailand at the invitation of the Faculty of Public Health, Naresuan University to talk at the conference organized by the faculty about the issues on ageing society last July 9, 2018, at the Amarin Lagoon Hotel.
During Prof. Nakamura’s visit at NUCHSM, she expressed her gratitude to Dr. Phudit and the NUCHSM management for the warm welcome accorded to her. Dr. Phudit and Prof. Nakamura had a long healthy discussion on health issues affecting both Thailand and Japan and the rest of the Asia-Pacific region. Dr. Phudit informed Prof. Nakamura about the different programs offered at NUCHSM and the research projects that the College has been actively involved in. Projects like the development of a sustainable ageing society which is supported and funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the National Economic and Development Board (NESDB), Thailand, the DHS StartUp project under the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth) and other research endeavors and consultancy projects supported by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), Thailand, and Health Systems Research Institute (HSRI), just to name a few.
The two health enthusiasts also talked about the emerging issues and challenges of an ageing society. They discussed how NUCHSM and TMDU can work together to address the pressing health problems faced by most communities in the world and to improve the standards of the peoples’ quality of life.
Dr. Phudit and Prof. Nakamura were positive to hold a future collaboration through joint research activities or knowledge exchange programs that will surely benefit the students and the organizations of both academic institution
