Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Naresuan University hosted “2nd NSFC-TRF collaborative project meeting” on 6th – 7th December, 2018. The conference was mainly supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and Thailand Research Fund (TRF) under project “Discovery and Generation of New Medicinal Chemical Entities Based on Bioactive Natural Products for Aging Society”.
This 3-year Thai-China collaborative project aims are development of natural product-based drug candidates with innovative chemistry and chemical biology protocols through the China-Thailand collaboration focusing on new efficient and natural source-saving technology to identify highly bioactive natural products, improvement of bioactive natural products to be more druggable with organic synthesis and natural product-based molecular tools for mechanism of action study and preclinical study of drug candidates.
In this meeting, recent scientific studies were presented by experts from higher education institutions, including of Nanjing University, China such as “Medicinal-space investigation of sinomenine, an economically available alkaloid from traditional Chinese medicine” by Prof. Dr. Zhu-Jun Yao, “Genome mining and biosynthesis of microbial natural products” by Prof. Dr. Hui Ming Ge and “Active components from Achyranthes bidentate and structure modification for osteoporosis” by Prof. Dr. Jian-Xin Li, and Thailand such as the topic of “Cytotoxic merosesquiterpenes from the sponge Spongia Sp” by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anuchit Plubrukarn from Price of Songkla University, “Binding investigation and design of phosphodiesterase 5 inhibitors using computational techniques” by Asst. Prof. Dr. Patchareenart Saparpakorn from Kasetsart University and “Research and development of natural products from Thai biodiversity” by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kornkanok Ingkaninan from Narasuan University, etc. More than 100 participants from universities around Thailand and some companies were registered in this conference.
The other activities of this collaborative projects were to offer chance to graduate students to go overseas for conducting their research studies at the partner institutes.
