NU History

Named after the Great King Naresuan, Naresuan University was developed from a College of Education in 1967 and later established as the Phitsanulok Campus of Srinakharinwirot University in 1974. The university was officially granted university status on July 29, 1990, and the name “Naresuan University” was graciously given by His Majesty King Bhumibhol Adulyadej. The Royal Gazette to form the following bodies : Office of the President, Graduate School, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Education, and Central Library


Establishment of Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Faculty of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment


Inception of Faculty of Engineering


Settling up of Faculty of Medicine


Founding of Faculty of Nursing, Faculty of Dentistry, and Faculty of Allied Health Sciences


Launching of Faculty of Medical Sciences, Faculty of Architecture, Naresuan University International College, Faculty of Management and Information Sciences (presently named Faculty of Business, Economics, and Communications), Faculty of Law, Faculty of Social Sciences (split from Faculty of Humanities), Faculty of Public Health, and School of Renewable Energy Technology

2011 Establishment of School of Logistics and Supply Chain and the Institute for Fundamental Study

With these Faculties categorized into 3 clusters: the Social Sciences Cluster, the Science and Technology Cluster, and the Health Sciences Cluster, the university has been directing towards decentralization of education and equality of study opportunity for people in the lower northern provinces of Thailand, which include Phitsanulok, Pichit, Sukhothai, Kampaengphet, Petchaboon, Uttradit, Tak, Nakhonsawan, and Uthaithani. Naresuan University, as a descendant of King Naresuan The Great’s remarkable victory in freeing the Kingdom of Thailand, is committed in pursuit of a ‘free from ignorance society.’
