Naresuan University Reinforces Its Commitment to Equality: Creating a Safe Space for All Diversity

Naresuan University reaffirms its commitment to equality and respect for gender diversity and continues to advance efforts to create a “safe space” for all students. This commitment is reflected in the “NU Pride & Rainbow Crossing” event, held on Friday, June 5, 2026, in the area in front of Khwan Muang Building and the NU Dorm student residence at Naresuan University. Now in its fifth consecutive year, the event promotes freedom of self-expression under the concept: “LGBTQIA+ have the freedom to live their truth without fear!” It aims to ensure that students can live happily within the university community, take pride in their identities, and be accepted equally.

Dr. Charatdao Kongmuang, Vice President for Student, Alumni and Art-Culture Development at Naresuan University, stated that the university places great importance on cultivating an inclusive learning environment that respects the diversity of all students. Since the 2022 academic year, the university has organized the “NU Pride & Rainbow Crossing” activity as a pre-semester initiative before the first semester each year. This year marks the fifth implementation of the program, once again held in front of Khwan Muang Building and the NU Dorm student residence.

The event is the result of collaboration among students, faculty members, and university staff, aiming to foster a space of acceptance and mutual understanding of gender diversity. The rainbow crossing symbol represents the values of equality, respect for human dignity, and coexistence grounded in empathy and acceptance. This initiative forms part of the university’s broader effort to enable all students to live happily on campus, embrace their identities with pride, and develop into well-rounded individuals.

Dr. Charatdao Kongmuang further emphasized that activities under the “NU Pride” concept are not merely a response to social trends but rather a reflection of the university’s core values and firm stance. Guided by the principle “LGBTQIA+ have the freedom to live their truth without fear!”, the university supports every individual’s right to live and express their identity confidently and without fear. Naresuan University is committed to establishing a safe and inclusive environment where all students are equally accepted and can thrive within the academic community.

Furthermore, Naresuan University has demonstrated its commitment to equality and respect for diversity through concrete policy measures. Notably, the University Regulation on Undergraduate Student Uniforms (No. 2), 2018, published in the Royal Gazette on December 17, 2018, permits students to dress in accordance with their gender identity in compliance with university regulations. This policy reflects an administrative approach aligned with international standards, upholding fundamental human rights and personal freedoms while promoting appreciation and valuing diversity within the university community. It reinforces Naresuan University’s role as a higher education institution that prioritizes diversity, equality, and respectful coexistence within a continuously evolving learning society.

Before the enactment of the 2018 regulation, Professor Dr. Sujin Jinahyon, former President of Naresuan University, initiated a policy allowing students to dress in accordance with their gender identity while studying and living on campus. This initiative reflected the university’s respect for human dignity, individual rights, freedom, and equality in accordance with universal human rights principles.
