The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation (MHESI) conducted a comprehensive site visit to oversee the progress of the Naresuan University Transformation Project, aimed at bolstering the nation’s competitiveness through the development of logistics and supply chain capabilities, with the overarching goal of grooming adept logistics professionals fit for the demands of the 21st century.

 

On January 15th, Mr. Phanuphong Pheemsak, Director of the Division for Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation Propulsion and Development (MHESI), along with Assoc. Prof. Sajee Sirikrai and Assoc. Prof. Chaiyanyan Chanapornma, representatives of the University Transformation Committee, monitored the progress of Naresuan University’s efforts to enhance Thailand’s business and industrial competitiveness through digital supply chains and logistics under the Reinventing University project. They were greeted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Korakorn Ingkanin, Vice President for Research and Innovation Development, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Watcharapon Sukhonthut, Dean of the Faculty of Logistics and Digital Supply Chains, Naresuan University.

Mr. Phanuphong Pheemsak stated that he and the university’s transformation committee believe that Naresuan University has the potential and readiness, both locally within the lower northern provinces and nationally, to bridge regional gaps and foster economic development along the North-South-East-West economic corridor. The university’s economic expansion efforts in the region, including infrastructure developments in air, land, and railway transportation networks, are poised to support future logistics services. It serves as a pivotal hub linking economic activities, trade and investment, services, and regional tourism effectively. Coupled with the outcomes of consultancy projects and the establishment of problem-solving platforms in digital supply chains and logistics, as well as the promotion of digital supply chain and logistics skills among Thai entrepreneurs, Naresuan University is positioned to contribute significantly to the nation’s business competitiveness and industrial development. This will enable the university to serve as a knowledge hub and facilitate collaborations among governmental, private, educational, and globally renowned logistics and supply chain experts. Naresuan University is committed to leveraging its initiatives and policies to benefit the development of digital supply chain and logistics capabilities and regional and national economic growth in the future.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Korakorn Ingkanin emphasized that the development of logistics and supply chains is a crucial strategy for enhancing the country’s competitiveness. Naresuan University is cognizant of the technological changes impacting the economy and the need for personnel equipped with knowledge and skills in applying innovation and technology for logistics and supply chain management at an advanced level. For instance, expertise in digital engineering and artificial intelligence, the development of automatic systems and internet-of-things networks, digital innovation to support digital economy and information technology, and the creation of new business models will elevate Thailand’s competitiveness and industrial capabilities. By employing digital supply chains and logistics as drivers, Thailand can become a central hub for linking technology and innovation to high-value economic development.
