Mr. Okuda Hiroyuki, Evaluation Analysis Expert from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), together with Ms. Suphak Suesutthikul, Program Officer from JICA Thailand Office, were warmly welcomed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sarintip Tantanee, President of Naresuan University (NU) and executive team members of NU. Committed to climate change adaptation at local level in the lower north of Thailand, President Tantanee presented information under the project “Advancing Co-Design of Integrated Strategies with AdaPtation to Climate Change in Thailand (ADAP-T)” to the JICA team focusing on building a risk map for climate change impact, primarily from flood-prone communities in vulnerable areas of Bang Rakam district, Phitsanulok and Sukhothai province. ADAP-T aimed to increase capacity of local officers in charge of hydrological-related disaster in the areas through cooperation with Provincial Irrigation Offices and Departments of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DPPM) based locally in the two provinces to name just a few. Results of the project revealed not only academic achievements but social applications for disaster preparedness. To have representatives from JICA understand overall picture of what NU has done in the past years, the university also exhibited a research work on “Advancing Radar Research at NU for Disaster Prevention and Mitigation” to highlight how crucial meteorological data were used to predict and measure rainfall in particular areas. Presentations on “Tracking and Tackling PM 2.5 with Remote Sensing Technology” and “Flood Risk Assessment in Sukhothai and Bang Rakam Model” were also delivered, and madam president emphasized that, besides flooding, other disasters such as drought, PM 2.5, landslide and earthquake were worth exploring for better quality of life for people and expected that JICA would give a considerable support for NU contributions to disaster risk reduction and management for not only local level but national one. The visit concluded by a site visit to NU FoodInnopolis at Faculty of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment.
The meeting with JICA representatives was arranged on Tuesday, 8 July 2025 at 10.10 at Naresuan 304 Meeting Room, Office of the President.
